8 weeks post chemotherapy!

It’s been 8 weeks since my last chemotherapy. And in that time I have managed to have my surgery too! 

Periods

Yeah, I’d like to say I miss it. But I definitely don’t. On the day of my surgery my period started. I kid you not. Was I prepared? No? I had 0 tampons, and 0 sanitary pads in the house. The pain was unreal, the cramps you get it! It feels nice to have some normality back and feel a bit like a woman again. But I definitely haven’t missed these times! I’m surprised how quickly it all came back. Could of been a mixture of stress due to the surgery coming up and anxieties of that. But it happened. Lasted 5 days and off. How bizarre!

Fatigue

Baring in mind, I have just had surgery 1 week post writing this. I am feeling tired. But prior to this recent event, I was actually feeling relatively good. I felt like I had more energy. Not enough to run a marathon but enough to feel  I can run around with Erin a bit more! 

Throughout my hospital appointments in the lead up to surgery they did millions of blood tests. Safe to say, I missed my picc line for this, as usual they struggled to find a vein 🙄 but going through all my bloods the anaesthetic dr could see that my neutrophils we’re getting better. But still far from where they need to be. It is interesting to see that even 8 weeks ago I had my last chemo, I’m still ‘vulnerable’ when it comes to catching a cold. Which does make me wonder about this bloody ‘Coronavirus’ that’s going around. But I’m not stressing about it and bulk buying loo roll and medicines. 

Hair Growth 

Well In 4 weeks, I completely lost my eyebrows and my eyelashes. And now. Well the picture shows them appearing. Need to dust off my gimmebrow 😂












Then there’s my head hair. It’s starting to get quite long and to a point where I feel comfortable not wearing my turban out and about. Providing I do my make up haha! 















Nails


It’s safe to say that my nails have certainly taken abuse to this chemotherapy/cancer journey. Not only has my right toenail gone, RIP my left toenail is also on the verge out. My fingernails are hideous. They have all started lifting from the nail bed. God get me some nail varnish stat!

Sometimes life just kicks you back down when you get better and start to climb that hill.  It all started on Tuesday 24th March. I woke up feeling okay. Not brilliant. But okay. Erin and I had breakfast and then we did some dancing around the front room like Zumba style. Nothing exciting, but embracing this lockdown. She then went up for her morning nap. 1year since chemotherapy

I can’t believe that it has been a year since I had my last chemotherapy. A double whammy of paclitaxol and carboplatin. 1 year.  In May it will be 1 year since my radiotherapy ended! But I’ll come to that later!  I haven’t been on here much. A lot has happened since I last wrote. I have mainly been trying to recover mentally and physically from all my treatments and trying to get a new normal back. Being back to work and living in our own house that we purchased in October! But with COVID lurking around every corner, I don’t know how you are coping but it’s hard. One minute I get back to work in a routine and then I’m put on furlough because I’m classed as clinically extremely vulnerable. And repeat and repeat and repeat. Periods So safe to say, that my body is back to normal. Like clockwork since summer last year. I have heard that some people have not had a single period since coming off chemotherapy.  It still feels good to have periods, but I don’t know how ‘working’...

Unexpected phone call.

So thought I’d go for lunch today with Erin and my friend.  Get my phone out my bag! Phone call from hospital! They left a voicemail saying can you call back the breast services team please ASAP.  Oh shit.  They’ve changed their mind haven’t they.  😭 Phoned them immediately back and they offered me an appointment next day for my surgical consultation.  SURGICAL CONSULTATION   I was discharged from chemotherapy like not even 48hours ago!!! So I have my appointment tomorrow at 3:20pm! Holy crap!
